Guesing Beyond the End of a Game
I've been plugging away at Chess Guesser, based on what I'd want from a tool like this. A lot of the changes are tweaks and bug fixes that I won't go into.
One of the things I have found is that I can't always beat an engine starting from the end of one of the games I'm looking at. I think this is an important skill: even an utterly winning position can still be thrown away. Also, at lower levels, players will often make you demonstrate you know how to win, even if they don't have the patience, never mind the skill, of an engine.
The new functionality changes how the site behaves at the end of a game as recorded.
- unlike before, you can keep guessing, right until checkmate
- an "engine move" button is enabled, which plays the engine move
- you can change your mind about moves, backtrack and try alternatives
I hope others find it as worthwhile as I do. If you try it, feel free to drop me a line -- contact info is available on the "about" page of the site.
